Thats what happened for Whartons Diana Robertson. When she came to the school from Emory University in 2007, she was asked to teach an ethics course in addition to her organizational behavior courses. It turns out, Robertson loved business ethics and has never looked back. But unlike other professors that teach business ethics, Robertson approaches the topic from a sociological perspective, which makes sense considering her graduate-level education is in sociology.Most recently, Robertson is teaming up with the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative to study what happens to the brain when people encounter ethical i ssues. By scanning the brains of 57 Wharton MBA students, Robertson and her team found that brain structure looks different in students that are more advanced in their thinking about ethics compared to those that are less advanced. I have always wanted to know what makes people behave the way they do in organizations. What better place to study human behavior than in business?â€Å"One word that describes my first time teaching† Terrified.What are you currently researching and what is the most significant discovery youve made from it? My neuroscience colleagues and I scanned the brains of 57 Wharton MBA students to discover what happens in the brain as people encounter ethical issues. We found that the brain structures of those students who are more advanced in their thinking about ethics looked different from the brain structures of students who were less advanced. What is your most memorable moment as a professor?  I was invited to present my research at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where I met heads of state, as well as business leaders. A highlight was sitting next to Melinda Gates and chatting with her about the times she recruited at Wharton for Microsoft.Since you first starte d teaching, how has business education changed?  Our students today are more diverse in background and thought. It is a privilege, and I think about that every time I walk into the classroom. I start the semester with a room full of strangers a nd end with a community. Prominently displayed on my desk is a mug given to me by my TA that reads, â€Å"Tomorrow your students will lead the world.† My students will indeed be the business leaders of tomorrow.What’s the biggest challenge?  Grading—differentiating among students who are all motivated and incredibly smart.What is the most impressive thing one of your undergraduate students has done?  One former student won a Rhodes scholarship, but she is just one of many. I feel good about the recommendation letters I write for my students who are admitted to prestigious graduate programs. At the moment, for example, I have four former students in top medical schools.What is the least favorite thing one has done? Told me that I ruined his life by giving him a bad grade.Since you’ve been teaching, how have students changed over the years? People always ask me if students are less ethical than they used to be. My answer is No, but they do have shorter attention spans, and I might add, so do I.What does a student need to do to get an A in your class? Engage with the course material. It can’t feel good to tell your parents or future employer that you got a bad grade in Ethics, but it is like any other course. Getting a bad grade does not mean that you are not ethical. Marijuana is a drug formed by drying out the shredded flowers, stems, and leaves of the Indian hemp plant. It is also the most common illegal drug used in the United States, and the second most- used drug in the world, behind alcohol. According to one national survey, approximately 6,000 Americans try marijuana for the first time every day. Marijuana has been proven to positively affect some illnesses, and the Medical Legalization Movement has made great progress in the US (randomhistory.com  ©2007-2014). However, should the drug be approved for recreational purposes? Several significant reasons lead me to believe it should be. One major reason is the income. California, where marijuana is legal for medical use, finds the substance to be†¦show more content†¦Growing a plant like this on public grounds may be unsafe for the surrounding ecosystem as well as hikers or visitors to the park. Legalizing the drug would get rid of any motives to cultivate such illicit farms. This would effectively save millions in efforts to rid of these plants and environmental clean-up costs (www.mpp.org). California’s taxpayer’s are also shelling out for law enforcement officers to chase down and arrest marijuana consumers. â€Å"According to FBI statistics, California arrested 74,119 people on marijuana charges in 2007 - nearly 80 percent of those were for simple possession (www.mpp.org).† In 2010, over 52 percent of all drug arrests in California were marijuana-related, which is the highest it’s been since 1995. Despite all the efforts by law enforcement officers and the exponential sum of money paid by taxpayers, â€Å"chasing down people for using this plant costs us real money and isn’t proving an effective strategy for curbing its use (F. Aaron Smith, California policy director for the Marijuana Policy Project, 2013).† The closing statements in the previous paragraph lead to the next senior reason for marijuana’s regulation: the marijuana-related crime. Toyota used this platform to introduce the all new Prius 4 during Super Bowl 50 when they aired their commercial, The Longest Chase. And the car’s power and performance are enough to turn any drive into an event worth sharing with the entire world. When I was eight years old, my father, who never completed college, decided to better himself by taking an accounting course at the local community college. He got so frustrated with it, and struggled with it so much that one day he was in his study and he just let out this holler and threw the accounting textbook across the room. Then again, maybe it was Calculus he was taking, not accounting. Whatever. Either way they are both awful and often necessary evils for the college student. I inherited my fathers artistic flair and numerical impairments, and so I too have trouble understanding the world of accounting. Especially their terms. It is, however, ironic how these terms can cross over to us creative folks who cannot crunch numbers or financially map out a corporation to save our lives. Segregation is a mindset that is deeply rooted in the daily infrastructure of American history, particularly in southern America. Although the 1863 emancipation proclamation legally abolished slavery in the United States and allowed for newly freed black slaves to fight for their freedoms, it did little to nothing to transform the overall perceptions of blacks in the eyes of white Americans. In the south, racial inequality could be seen in education, social segregation, and in political processes. Jim Crow laws were in place soon after this emancipation and were heavily enforced by southern whites. Answer: Thesis Statement: There is expansion of the external affairs and its powers since the Federation shows the growing independence of Australia from the Crown of the United Kingdom and its transfer into nationhood. In Australia, it is encountered[1] an unknown expansion in relation with the other nations and with the growth of communication there was rapid success in the multilateral treaties that have been formed. This gave scope to matters that could now be discussed domestically[2]. However, in Australia this rapid growth did not have a good place as it faced a number of difficulties as a federal state. Australia could not present as single structure to the rest of the world in order to take part in the developing rules of the international[3] law. As a result of such rule, there were two provisions made by the Constitution of Australia so that they could participate in the international areas. The two provisions are the followings: The first provision is of the concern that the federal executives and their powers can enter into agreements with other countries. This treaty making power has been understood by the Commonwealth government. The second provision talks about the Commonwealths[4] ability in implementing the treaty and it legislative actions to do so. Just like England, even Australia believes that obligations that come out from a treaty shall have no internal affect, with respect to the changes which are brought out in relation with the changes in the legal rights and duties without making the legislation by the Parliament. Tasamania (the dams case), the High Court had declared in this case that the dam would be built at the opening of the Franklin and Gordon Rivers which would result in the external affairs. The provisions made in the Australian[7] Constitution for the external affairs or foreign affairs can be blamed on luck back in the days. Australia still holds an identity it had as the British Colony and is mostly dependent on the United Kingdoms law making bodies. In Australia the federal system has quite often been scrutinized due to its failure regarding the conventional[13] federal model. The federal system in Australia does not function properly, it was noted that when having three tier system of government in Australia it become a hindrance to promote political participation between its citizens. Hence, this disturbs the people of the country and gets them to question whether they are living in a democratic country or not. There are various problems associated with the system of three tier government which are faced by Australia. It generally causes problems in the duping the governments and also overriding or going against certain policies in deferent sectors[14] of a country. Under section 109 of the Constitution of Australia, the Commonwealth has gained ultimate power. Such powers generally cause inequality between different States and gives rise to unhealthy completion which causes rivalry between the States. The Commonwealth held majority of the power it causes a number of problems for the States and its citizens. The biggest problem caused by this power was that on the High Court of Australia, when the High Court[16] had to interpret the Constitution according to the Federal system of government. A lot of commotion has been caused in relation to the High Courts decision in interpreting the Constitution that is the favour of the Commonwealth government[17]. The States then feel that the need as well as the thoughts or the ideas of their own citizens are not being given any importance and even if they oppose this in the High Court, it will still not be of any help as the High Court will be in the favour the Commonwealth government. This became clear when matters concerning the Commonwealth in relation with the amount of power that had been invested had been brought to the High Court which related to the external affairs. In a co-operative federalism the state and the federal government work together to bring out the objective and achieve the decided object. It basically aims at achieving goals that are common. It has been clear that the federal system in Australia is not appropriate in its nature. It is believed that there is one model of federalism. However, in practical terms there is no single form of federation that can be applicable everywhere. The notion involves the mixture of shared rules with regional rules in a political system[20] so that all are equal and there is no inequality among them in different ways and circumstances. The Australian model of Federation has failed to set up a conventional federal state.
